Abstract

This editorial highlights research advancing gender equality, inclusion, and social justice across institutional and community settings in subnational Philippines. The four studies examine gendered experiences in the criminal justice system, gender and development (GAD) awareness in higher education, LGBTQIA+ support systems, and gender-inclusive student accommodation. Drawing on diverse theoretical perspectives and empirical insights, the contributions reveal persistent structural inequalities and gaps in institutional responsiveness. Collectively, they underscore the need to move beyond policy compliance toward transformative, gender-responsive governance, inclusive educational environments, humane rehabilitation, and community-based support. The issue advances evidence-informed policies that promote dignity, equity, and participation.
